We are working with Geoscapes to install a rain garden at one of our projects and we’re pretty excited about it. Molly Maguire Landscape created the landscape plan for the property, which includes native meadow, rain garden, edible fruit trees and berries, stone patio, vegetable garden and a duck pond! The rain garden was incorporated into the design to manage drainage flows and treat storm water runoff. The plants and soil in the rain garden will work together to filter and absorb rooftop runoff, imitating the natural process. Runoff from roads, parking areas and roofs are the largest source of pollution in the Puget Sound. By incorporating a rain garden these homeowners are creating a valuable habitat for insects, birds, reptiles and mammals while managing runoff from their roof.
