We have been dreaming and scheming about installing a mural on the east wall of the Chuckanut Builders shop since we moved in seven years ago; the time has finally come!
This Thursday, June 6th, we’re hosting the Noisy Waters Uptown Block Party. The block party is a follow-up to the Noisy Waters Mural Festival that we co-sponsored last summer. During the party Emily Beaudoin, the “People’s Choice” award winner, will be live painting a mural on our Laurel Street wall.
Paper Whale Arts has been an essential catalyst for activating underutilized public spaces in Bellingham and developing our community’s celebration of the arts. At Chuckanut Builders we believe in the power of public art- ensuring everyone in our community can enjoy beauty and engage with art. There is immense value in folks identifying with place and public art is place-making at its best. Place-making helps tell a story, draws folks to new neighborhoods in their community, and it encourages us to share it with others. The built environment can feel austere and hard; public art can soften those edges by personalizing it, adding depth and inviting us to stop and stay awhile.
The Block Party is family-friendly, so bring your entire crew! It will feature a kid’s painting wall, the OVN Pizza food truck, the new “Noisy Waters” Ale release from Wander Brewing, and live music. The party will run from 4pm-8pm at our downtown office, located at 1000 State Street. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the arts, our beloved community and Wander’s new brew!
