Anyone that frequents sites like Remodelista, Dwell or Apartment Therapy might be under the impression that everyone’s kitchens are more hip an functional than theirs. They would be wrong! As general contractors we’ve seen a lot of kitchens and they run the gamut from modern to time capsules from the 1960s. If your kitchen falls into the latter category this post is for you. We’ve compiled before and after pictures from a few of our favorite kitchen remodeling projects to inspire you and maybe give you the encouragement you need to start planning your forever kitchen.
Sometimes the layout isn’t the problem, the finishes are!
This home was built in the 1950’s and never updated! Everything was original, we’re talking countertops, layout, flooring, the amazing ceiling, everything. Our goal was to honor the original design while also modernizing it. I’d say we hit the ball out of the park!
Natural light and raised ceilings for the win!
Wow! This kitchen was transformed. For this remodel we vaulted the ceilings, moved and removed walls to bring more light into the kitchen, and added fir paneling to the ceiling. The custom cabinets were built by Renew Wood with reclaimed Douglas Fir lumber from the old Towner Press building in downtown Bellingham.
Well, hello there 1980!
One picture can’t convey the extent of the changes in this kitchen. Pre-remodel there were 6 doorways leading into and out of the kitchen and one of them was a bathroom! The redesign opened up the kitchen, drastically reduced the number of doorways and brought in more natural light.
Pretty in pink went out of style awhile ago…
You know what was popular in the 1990’s? Pink granite. And they went big in this house! Our clients had a vision for what the house could become and they ran with it. We reconfigured the kitchen and dining room area, updated all of the finishes, built a small addition and completed a near net zero building performance update.
Sometimes it’s enough to update the finishes in a kitchen. At other times, it’s best to gut the room and start over! Whichever of those statements applies to your kitchen Chuckanut Builders is here to help. Head over to our contact us page to get in touch and get started!
