Bellingham Mountain Rescue Fundraiser

As fall settles over Whatcom County, the crew at Chuckanut Builders is starting to think about one of our favorite winter activities: backcountry skiing.  This Friday, September 30th, the  Bellingham Mountain Rescue Council (BMRC) is sponsoring an event that is sure to make us all wish for the first big snow dump of the season.

BMRC has brought in ski mountaineer Greg Hill to talk about his evolution from mountain boy to accomplished mountaineer.  In his slideshow he will presents shots from the tops of some of the 71 summits he has gained, talking about motivation, challenge and the rewards associated with perseverance.

We hope you will join us in supporting the BMRC, an organization that we are committed to supporting with both our time and money!  That’s right, in addition to two of our owners being active members of the BMRC we have pledged to match any donations made between today and the night of the event, up to $250.  Go to our Facebook page for details on doubling your donation!

This important community organization started in 1955 after after two mountaineering accidents occurred on Mount Shuksan within a short time span, demonstrating the need for a rescue team capable of operating in the mountains.  The BMRC consists of forty members who serve year round, in all weather conditions, on a volunteer basis assisting hikers, climbers, skiers and snowmobilers from the Canadian border to the North Cascades Highway.

Details of the event:
When:September 30th from 730-930pm
Where: Back Country Essentials (214 W.Holly St.)
Cost: $15 at the door or in advance at brownpapertickets.com
All of the proceeds from the event will benefit the BMRC, an organization funded entirely through charitable contributions and fundraising events. There will be door prizes and a live auction.
