Background
Our clients bought this home with plans to complete a full home remodel that included building performance upgrades, updating the layout, refinishing all of the surfaces, adding a rain garden and adding a small mud room. It was a dream job!
Planning
We used an integrated design process for this remodeling project that included [bundle] design studio, Armadillo Design Lab, Bourne Engineering, SVC Interiors and Molly Maguire Landscape Architecture.
Every room in this home changed in some way. We added an entry and mudroom, vaulted the ceilings, moved and removed walls to bring more light into the updated kitchen and added fir paneling to the ceiling.
All of the cabinets were built by Jeffery Elkins of Renew Wood with reclaimed Douglas Fir lumber from the old Towner Press building in downtown Bellingham.
Building Performance
Building performance measures included insulating and air sealing the home; installing a mini-split heat pump and heat recovery ventilator; adding solar panels and selecting locally manufactured high performance Euroline windows. We prioritized water conservation and installed a rain garden to dramatically reduce stormwater runoff.
